Orleans Reinette apple
£1.60 per kilo
Ready M October
SEASON Nov - Jan
Theory has it that this apple originated in France, but some confusion surrounds its history. It received an Award of Merit from
the RHS in 1914 under the name of Winter Ribston, and received an Award of Merit in 1921 under the name Orleans Reinette, which has remained with it since. The fruits are medium large in size, round and flat in shape. The skin is yellowy green, flushed with orange/ orange-red, which has on top many fine patches of russet and freckles. The skin inside is creamy white, with a complexity of flavours- sweet and somewhat orange -like, also rather nutty. If cooked, the slices keep their shape.
