ABOUT US

More choice, better quality

In the orchard Yorkshire Orchards is a small, family run, commercial orchard. The company was established in 2002 on a farm near the village of Wilberfoss, York, England. We have now planted almost 800 trees, and continue to plant specialist varieties. Our aim is to give customers a wider choice of apples than is currently offered by supermarkets or elsewhere, although we do not aim to compete with their quantities. We aim to sell primarily to the local public, but will also sell to the rest of the UK.

Classic varieties and the best of the modern

Harvesting time We currently have well over 100 different varieties of apple tree, from the traditional to the very modern. These include a wide range of dessert, culinary, cider and dual purpose apples; we have over 20 types of cooking apple alone! These range from Grenadier, the first cooker, through such delights as Arthur Turner, Bountiful, Monarch, Crispin, and of course the ever popular Bramley's Seedling to name but a few. Many of our Bramley's Seedling apple trees have been propagated directly from the original tree in Nottingham, to reinforce the quality of the flavour.

Our customers' comments have been very encouraging; many have been delighted to re-taste the flavours of their youth. Varieties such as Ashmead's Kernel and Adams Pearmain for instance, are becoming popular once again, along with delights such as Egremont Russet, Lord Lambourne and Laxton's Superb. We also offer new varieties, bred with modern research behind them, and grow Fiesta, Katy, Scrumptious, Jumbo and Sweet Society to name but a few.

The future

Our orchard is still very young, but we are growing bigger every year and the trees are already fruiting heavily. Every year that passes sees more and more trees mature and produce good heavy crops. The old and new apple varieties compliment each other very well, for no two people's tastes are the same! Our list of varieties is increasing every year, as we add new trees to our collection here in the orchard.

Visiting the Orchard

We welcome visits from schools, colleges and groups. We can accept coach parties; parking is available on the farm for buses. However all visits must be booked in advance, as we are not open to the public daily. Please ring 01759 380375 to book a visit to the orchard.
