Kidd's Orange Red apple
£1.60 per kilo
Ready E Oct Season Oct - Jan
Raised in New Zealand in 1924 by by J H Kidd of Greytown, Wairarapa Valley, one of his many delights (the others including Gala and Freyberg). This one is the result of a cross between Cox's Orange Pippin and Delicious. Introduced to England around 1932.
The fruits are medium in size, round and conical in shape. The skin is a pale yellow with a pink- red flush on top, topped with patches of russet. The flesh inside is creamy white, juicy and firm to the
bite. It boasts a reputation as one of the finest dessert apples, due to its flavour. It has a finely balanced mixture of sweetness and acidity, and is highly aromatic.
