Originated in Wigtown, Galloway, Scotland. Although it first came to attention in 1871, it was believed to have been existence long before that.
A yellow apple with spots of russet. It has a strong flavour which is best used early if desired for cooking, as the flavour fades in storage. Makes a strong sharp dessert apple.
