Freyberg apple
£1.60 per kilo
Ready Mid Oct Season Nov - Jan
Grown in New Zealand in 1934 by J H Kidd at Greytown, Wairarapa Valley, with Cox's Orange Pippin and Golden Delicious as it's parents. Named after a New Zealand Governor General, Lord Freyberg.
Introduced to the world in 1958. The fruits are small in size, round in shape.
A light green apple with speckles russet on top. Inside, the flesh is highly scented and, similar to a Cox, boasts a complexity of flavours - hints of pear, banana, peach, brandy and cinnamon to name but a few.
