Allington Pippin apple
£1.60 per kilo
Ready Early Oct Season Nov- Dec
Grown by Thomas Laxton in Linconshire, and initially called ''Brown's South Lincoln Beauty''.
It was renamed Allington Pippin in 1894. This appears to be much more befitting an apple whose parents are Cox's Orange Pippin and King of the Pippins!
Introduced two years later in 1896 by Bunyard of Maidstone. The fruits are conical in shape, can often be a little lopsided. The skin is smooth, with a yellow/green undercoat flushed over with an earthy red/orange colour. The skin also has broken, tiny red stripes and some greyish russet patches. Inside, the crunchy flesh is creamy white in colour, juicy and aromatic.
