Believed to originate from France pre 1613. A dessert apple of unknown origin, the fruits are small/medium in size, and flat round in shape. The skin is yellow/green with an over flush of red. Inside the firm and juicy flesh is reminiscent of pineapple - its acidity mellows over time, becoming sweeter.
It flowers late in the spring and is known as the ''wise apple'' because of this.
A favourite in Victorian times, as much for its ornamental effect in a garden as well as is flavour.
