Braeburn apple
£1.60 per kilo
Ready L Oct Season Jan - Mar
Found in New Zealand on the land of OMoran, Waiwhero, Upper Moutere. Believed to have Lady Hamilton as a mother, but father unknown!
In 1952 was grown commercially by William Bros. at Braeburn Orchards, also in Upper Moutere, hence the name.
The skin is yellow, flushed and striped with red. Inside, the flesh is creamy yellow and crisp, with an intricate mixture of sweet and sharp flavours. Rather aromatic, it is reputed to have the perfume of cider.
The fruits unfortunately do not always like the climate in the UK, but can do extremely well in a good year.
